Family offices prefer AI as key investment theme over crypto: JPMorgan

JPMorgan’s latest annual survey of global family offices confirms a strong preference among ultra-high-net-worth investors for Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the primary investment theme, significantly outpacing interest in cryptocurrencies and digital assets.

The report highlights that AI and enabling technologies are overwhelmingly viewed as the most compelling long-term disruptive opportunity. Family offices, who manage significant pools of long-term capital, are increasingly favoring direct private equity investments and venture capital funds focused on deep technology and generative AI applications. This strategic allocation reflects a high-conviction belief in the technology’s transformative impact across all sectors of the global economy.

AI ranked above all other thematic interests, including climate change, which remains a consistently high priority, alongside healthcare and biotech advancements. The preference for technology is driven by the perceived rapid monetization and fundamental restructuring potential of AI.

In contrast, while digital assets have seen volatility subside and prices rebound, they have dropped dramatically in priority as a core thematic focus for strategic allocation. Regulatory uncertainty, coupled with the speculative nature often associated with the asset class, has prompted family offices to maintain a cautious stance. JPMorgan’s findings indicate that strategic investors are prioritizing tangible technological growth and maturity (AI) over volatile, speculative asset classes (crypto), solidifying AI’s status as the definitive thematic leader for patient capital.
