Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has projected that the mass adoption of smart accounts is likely to arrive within the next year, marking a pivotal shift in the network’s user experience. Speaking at a recent developer conference, Buterin highlighted the transition from traditional Externally Owned Accounts (EOAs) to smart contract-based wallets as a primary goal for the ecosystem. This evolution, often referred to as Account Abstraction, aims to solve long-standing usability issues by introducing features such as social recovery, gasless transactions, and transaction batching. By moving away from the rigid security of seed phrases, smart accounts provide a safety net for users who might otherwise lose access to their funds. Buterin emphasized that the technical foundation is largely in place, and the next twelve months will be critical for wallet providers and dApps to standardize these features and integrate them into the mainstream Ethereum experience.
