French authorities are scrambling following a major ransomware incident that has crippled Trans-Aquitaine Logistics (TAL), one of the nation’s largest supply chain operators. The attack, identified late Monday evening, leveraged sophisticated encryption protocols to lock down TAL’s internal routing databases and fleet management systems. The perpetrators, operating under the known moniker “HydraChain,” have demanded a ransom of 750 Bitcoin (approximately €45 million) in exchange for the decryption keys.
The incident has immediately impacted the movement of goods across Western France, leading to significant delays at key ports and distribution hubs. Experts from the National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI) are working alongside the judicial police to isolate the intrusion point, believed to be a zero-day vulnerability in outdated proprietary software.
This “Crypto Wrench Attack” marks the third major ransomware incident targeting French critical infrastructure this quarter alone, highlighting a disturbing trend of increased targeting by well-funded cybercriminal syndicates. While TAL management insists no sensitive customer data has been exfiltrated, the ongoing operational disruption serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat landscape facing French enterprises. Recovery efforts are expected to take several days, even if the ransom is not paid, forcing the company to revert to manual, paper-based logistics processes.
