A wallet address linked to the massive 2023 exploit of the Mixin Network has transferred approximately 1,100 Ethereum (ETH), valued at about $3.85 million, to the decentralized mixer Tornado Cash. The Mixin Network originally fell victim to a security breach in September 2023, which resulted in a loss of nearly $200 million across various digital assets after its cloud provider’s database was compromised. While the project previously attempted to negotiate with the attackers by offering a bug bounty for the return of the funds, large portions of the stolen capital remain in the hands of the hackers. This recent movement to Tornado Cash—a protocol frequently used to anonymize transactions—suggests that the perpetrators are beginning to launder the proceeds of the hack. Blockchain security firms are continuing to monitor the remaining stolen assets to track any further liquidation attempts.
