A South Korean police officer has been arrested for allegedly stealing 22 Bitcoins, valued at approximately $1.5 million (2 billion won), from the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul. The officer, who was in charge of managing seized assets, reportedly misappropriated the cryptocurrency which had been confiscated during a previous fraud investigation. The theft was uncovered during a routine audit of the station’s evidence storage. Authorities are currently investigating how the officer bypassed security protocols to access the digital wallet and whether the funds have been transferred to external accounts or liquidated. This incident has sparked a major internal review of how law enforcement agencies handle and secure confiscated digital assets.
