Despite long-standing speculation regarding the integration of digital assets into Elon Musk’s ‘everything app,’ X is not currently working on a cryptocurrency trading platform. Christopher Stanley, the Head of Product at X, recently clarified that the company’s immediate focus remains on building out its core payment infrastructure rather than establishing a native crypto exchange. While X has successfully secured money transmitter licenses in numerous U.S. states, the current roadmap prioritizes peer-to-peer payments and the movement of fiat currency. Although the platform has previously introduced features like NFT profile pictures and Bitcoin tipping, Stanley’s comments suggest that a full-scale trading environment is not on the short-term horizon, cooling rumors that the platform would soon compete with major exchanges like Coinbase or Binance.
