Sky Mavis, the developer behind the pioneering play-to-earn game Axie Infinity, has announced a significant airdrop event targeting holders of its governance token, AXS. The move involves distributing a brand new Ethereum-based gaming token, tentatively named the ‘Axie Ecosystem Reward Share’ (AERS) token, exclusively to those actively staking AXS.

This strategic initiative aims to reward long-term commitment and dedication within the Axie community, further strengthening the decentralized governance structure of the ecosystem. The airdrop mechanism is designed to prioritize stability, with larger allocations going to wallets that have maintained continuous and substantial AXS staking positions over the last year.

The AERS token is slated to play a critical role in the expanding Axie Universe, offering enhanced utility beyond basic governance.
