Bitnomial, a CFTC-regulated digital asset exchange, has announced the launch of the first regulated United States futures contracts for Tezos (XTZ). This significant development provides institutional investors with a robust, regulated avenue to gain exposure to the Tezos blockchain, a project initially proposed in 2014 that gained global attention following its massive $232 million Initial Coin Offering (ICO) in 2017.
The newly listed contracts are physically-settled, meaning that the underlying Tezos tokens are delivered upon contract expiration rather than being cash-settled. This feature is highly favored by institutional participants seeking direct exposure and minimizing counterparty risk inherent in purely financial derivatives.
Tezos is recognized within the blockchain ecosystem for its unique liquid Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, known as ‘baking,’ and its innovative on-chain governance structure, which allows the protocol to evolve without necessitating hard forks.
