Crypto dev launches website for agentic AI to ‘rent a human’

Alexandre Nansen, a developer previously associated with high-profile decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, has unveiled ‘AgentLoop,’ a controversial new platform designed to allow fully autonomous agentic AI systems to contract human labor for tasks the machines cannot perform. The service has quickly drawn attention—and criticism—for its provocative tagline: ‘Rent a Human.’

AgentLoop operates as an API endpoint where AI agents can submit structured task requests. These requests typically involve subjective judgments, physical verification, complex social interactions (like making phone calls), or tasks requiring manual dexterity that fall outside the digital realm. The AI agent pays for the service using wrapped stablecoins, which are held in an escrow smart contract until the human worker completes the task and the AI verifies the output.

Nansen defends the platform’s moniker, arguing it clearly defines the purely transactional nature of the interaction. “This isn’t about employment; it’s about giving an AI agency a reliable way to overcome its physical and contextual limitations,” Nansen stated in a blog post announcing the launch. “For an AI tasked with running a complex operation, a human becomes an outsourced module—a highly capable, real-world actuator.”

The platform represents a significant evolution in the ‘human-in-the-loop’ paradigm, flipping the traditional model where humans supervise AI. Instead, the AI is now the employer, defining requirements and executing payment.

However, ethical watchdogs and labor rights organizations have voiced immediate concern. Dr. Elara Vance, director of the Digital Labor Institute, warned that AgentLoop takes the precariousness of the gig economy to an extreme. “Labeling human labor as a resource to be ‘rented’ by an algorithm risks further dehumanization and abstracts workers completely from traditional employment protections. The goal of this platform seems to be minimizing the human interaction while maximizing computational efficiency, treating labor as a low-latency input for a machine,” Vance commented. AgentLoop reports that thousands of workers have already signed up, attracted by instantaneous crypto payments and flexible working hours driven entirely by AI demand spikes.
