Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao, the founder and former CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, has firmly ruled out any possibility of returning to an executive role at the company he built. Speaking on his future plans following his sentencing related to regulatory compliance failures, CZ stated that his chapter as the leader of Binance is decisively closed.
Zhao stepped down as CEO in late 2023 as part of a landmark $4.3 billion settlement between Binance and US authorities. While he remains a significant shareholder and retains influence as an industry figurehead, he has indicated that his focus has shifted to investing in early-stage projects and mentoring, particularly in the AI and biotechnology space.
Beyond his personal transition, CZ offered a bullish outlook for the cryptocurrency market, specifically predicting the onset of a ‘Bitcoin supercycle’ around 2026. This prediction aligns with the general theory of post-halving cycles, where institutional liquidity and widespread adoption typically drive exponential price growth two years after the Bitcoin mining reward reduction.
CZ emphasized that the 2024 halving, combined with the successful launch of US spot Bitcoin ETFs, is building unprecedented financial infrastructure for the next cycle. He suggests that 2025 will see significant market momentum, setting the stage for 2026 to witness a parabolic ‘supercycle’ marked by massive capital inflows and mainstream acceptance surpassing previous bull markets.
